With final Oscar voting just around the corner, the 2026 BAFTAs delivered a clear headline: One Battle After Another is the film to beat.
Paul Thomas Anderson’s epic led the night with six wins, including Best Picture and Best Director. The film also claimed Best Supporting Actor for Sean Penn, along with victories in adapted screenplay, cinematography, and editing, solidifying its front-runner status just days before Academy members begin casting their final ballots.
But the acting categories supplied several of the evening’s most talked-about moments. Wunmi Mosaku (Sinners) pulled off a surprise win in Best Supporting Actress over heavily watched contenders Teyana Taylor (One Battle After Another) and Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas (Sentimental Value). In Supporting Actor, Penn defeated Stellan Skarsgård to win his first-ever BAFTA — though Penn was notably absent from the ceremony.

There was also a jolt in Best Actor, where Robert Aramayo (I Swear) prevailed over a lineup that included Oscar nominees Timothée Chalamet, Leonardo DiCaprio, Ethan Hawke, and Michael B. Jordan. While Aramayo is not eligible at the Oscars until next year, his victory served as a reminder that BAFTA voters don’t always align perfectly with the Academy.
Elsewhere, Sinners and Frankenstein scored three wins apiece. Sinners also marked a historic moment as Ryan Coogler became the first Black BAFTA winner of Best Original Screenplay.
