The incident occurred in the second half of a 1-1 game when David and Antwerp defender Daam Foulon both attempted to head the ball, but their heads collided with each other.

David was down in pain before officials stretchered him off the field.

The Brampton, Ont., native is playing in his second season with Union SG and has nine goals this season.

He helped Union SG to a Pro League A championship last season, recording 19 goals in 34 matches in Belgium’s top professional league.

David is slated to represent Canada at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Canada, Mexico, and the United States. He has eight caps for Canada, recording three goals.

Canada also lost star left back Alphonso Davies to injury when he was forced off the field in the 47th minute of Bayern Munich’s match against Frankfurt on Saturday.

After evaluation, the club said that Davies suffered a torn muscle fibre in his right hamstring.
