Workers were notified Wednesday afternoon the Crown Royal bottling facility in Amherstburg, Ont., was closing two days ahead of schedule, according to Local 200 president John D’Agnolo.

The Diageo factory was slated for closure, but not until Saturday.

D’Agnolo says the early layoff is a “blindside” to the 100 members still on the job, although he says they were told they would be paid for the rest of the week.

The company announced in August 2025 it was shuttering the Essex County factory, while maintaining production in Manitoba and Quebec.
