Canada is providing Ukraine with an additional US$2 billion in military aid for the 2026–2027. This includes the transfer of more than 400 armored vehicles, including 383 Senator vehicles and 66 LAV 6.0 armored personnel carriers.

Canada will also continue the UNIFIER program until 2029, training Ukrainian military personnel. It is noted that the number of personnel allocated for this task will be increased.

It should be noted that Ukraine has already received more than 2,000 Senator armored vehicles from the Canadian company Roshel. Now this number will increase by 383 units, providing better protection and mobility to the Defense Forces of Ukraine.

This likely refers to an improved version of the Senator MRAP, built on a Ford 550 chassis. It was developed from lessons learned in the russian-Ukrainian war and offers the best balance of standardization and capabilities.

There is also a “police” variant, which first began arriving in Ukraine in 2022, but it was not suitable for combat. There is also a variant based on the Ram 5500 chassis, already supplied to Haiti, which performs well but less suitable for standardization due to the different chassis.

As for the LAV 6.0, these are full-fledged armored personnel carriers weighing 20.6 tons or 28.6 tons with additional armor. They are equipped with a Caterpillar C9 turbo diesel engine and are derived from the Swiss Piranha.

Canada has also been providing them to Ukraine as part of military aid since 2022. This results in a well-protected transport vehicle capable of carrying up to eight paratroopers, although it will most likely be equipped with some form of anti-drone protection, as seen on the Patria 6×6.

Overall, Canada continues to provide military assistance to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This is being done using equipment that has already been proven its capabilities on the battlefield.
