Police have recovered an illegal handgun and charged two boys from Mississauga after a school went into lockdown this week.
The incident happened around 1:40 p.m. on Wednesday when officers were called to a school near Erin Centre Boulevard and Glen Erin Drive in Mississauga for reports of a student with a gun.
Police say that the suspect was inside a community centre connected to the school, and that the school was placed on lockdown as a precaution.
Two teenage males were arrested at the community centre, and police say they recovered a loaded illegal handgun.
“Further investigation determined that no threats were made and there was no indication the suspects intended to cause harm at the school or community centre,” Peel police say.
Investigators haven’t disclosed the name of the school, but St. Aloysius Gonzaga Secondary School and the adjoining Erin Meadows Community Centre are located at the intersection of Erin Centre Boulevard and Glen Erin Drive
Police say a 15-year-old male and a 17-year-old male, both of Mississauga, have been charged with multiple offences, including possession of weapon for dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of firearm, and carrying concealed weapon.
The names of the accused cannot be released due to provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
