There is no change to Ian Huntley’s condition on the convicted child killer’s sixth day in hospital, Durham Constabulary has confirmed. The 52-year-old was discovered lying in a pool of blood in HMP Frankland last Thursday after being struck over the head multiple times with a metal pole, with Huntley too critically injured to be airlifted to hospital.

The primary suspect has been identified as triple murderer Anthony Russell, though this is yet to be confirmed by police and prison authorities. Huntley was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary after the attack in Frankland Prison workshop on Thursday, and has been in an induced coma since.

On Tuesday, Durham Constabulary confirmed to ChronicleLive: “There has been no change in the 52-year-old man’s condition overnight – he remains in hospital in a serious condition.”

Huntley is serving a life sentence for murdering 10-year-old girls Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman in Soham, Cambridgeshire in 2002, when he was the caretaker at their school. Prior to Thursday’s attack, he had been attacked twice during his 24 years behind bars.
