Significant rainfall is in store for Toronto Friday night into Saturday that should melt “much of the snowpack,” Environment Canada says.

The federal weather agency issued a special weather statement for Toronto late Friday afternoon, saying between 15 and 25 millimetres of rain is expected before Saturday evening.

“The rain combined with mild temperatures will likely melt much of the snowpack and lead to additional runoff,” Environment Canada said.

“The frozen ground has a reduced ability to absorb this rainfall,” it added.

The melting snow could lead to ponding on roads and in low lying areas, it says.
