George Russell secured victory in the season-opening Australian Grand Prix, as Ferrari opened the door for Mercedes to claim a one-two.

Charles Leclerc had led the opening stages after an excellent start, but Ferrari opted against pitting the Monegasque or Lewis Hamilton during two Virtual Safety Cars.

It resulted in Kimi Antonelli finishing second ahead of Leclerc and Hamilton in third and fourth, while Lando Norris completed the top five.

Oscar Piastri and Nico Hülkenberg both failed to start the race, the former due to a sighting-lap crash. A further three drivers retired during the grand prix, with Max Verstappen recovering from 20th to sixth.
