A Newmarket man has been charged after allegedly sexually assaulting a female with a weapon and causing bodily harm.
York Regional Police say the victim reported the incident on March 3.
They say she met the man at a bar in Newmarket and attended his home on Feb. 28 where the attack occurred.
The suspect was arrested and charged on March 4.
Michael Micallef, 40, of Newmarket, has been charged with one count each of sexual assault with a weapon, sexual assault cause bodily harm, overcome resistance by attempting to choke, and assault as well as two counts of sexual assault with choking. The charges have not been tested in court.
Police believe there may be additional victims and have released a photo of the accused to “encourage anyone with information to come forward.”
