Student protests wrap up: Here’s what to know
We’ve had reporters in many areas of Ontario where high school students walked out of classes this afternoon to protest the province’s planned OSAP changes.
Now, we’re wrapping up the live page for today.
From around noon to 2 p.m. ET, hundreds of students across southern and southwestern Ontario left their schools and marched to have their voices heard, despite persistent rain in many areas.
In Windsor, students took their concerns to the local MPP’s office.
In London, students from three high schools rallied at a downtown park.
In Kitchener, students marched to city hall, and in Waterloo, they went to the town square.
Backed by support from unions, politicians and even passersby in cars, students endured the wet weather to make their case: That the planned OSAP changes will shift former grants into loans that will hinder students and limit their options for post-secondary studies.
For its part, the province has maintained OSAP needs revamping because it was becoming unsustainable.
As the conversation continues, CBC News will be there to keep you informed.
