Police in Calgary are looking to track down a man they say stolen another man’s wallet and spent thousands of dollars using his cards.

It happened on Nov. 27, 2025 between 11:15 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on Barclay Parade SW in Eau Claire.

Investigators say the victim had briefly put his jacket on the back of his chair while out having lunch at an area restaurant.

The suspect came up behind the chair and took the wallet out of the jacket pocket.

The victim didn’t notice his wallet was gone until the suspect had left, according to police.

Shortly after leaving the restaurant, police believe the suspect made multiple fraudulent purchases online using the stolen cards.

A short time later, the victim got several phone calls from people posing as employees of the Royal Bank of Canada’s fraud department. They were trying to get more personal and financial information about the victim.

Police describe the suspect as a man in his late 20s to early 30s, about 5’11” to 6′ tall, with a medium build and a short beard.

At the time of the incident, he was wearing a black hooded jacket, grey Nike sweatpants, white shoes, and a black baseball cap.

Anyone who knows the identity of the suspect, or who believes they have been a victim of fraud, is asked to contact police by calling 403-266-1234 or tip anonymously through CrimeStoppers.
