It was a foreign feeling for Vancouver Canucks fans at Rogers Arena. Make that double for the players.
The Canucks entered their game against the Nashville Predators having won just four of their last 29 games.
In the third period, they were down by two goals. This historically bad Canucks team was 2-32-1 when trailing after two periods this season. Both of their come-from-behind wins came when entering the third down by just a goal.
It seemed like another loss was surely on the horizon.
But suddenly, they flipped the script.
Marco Rossi scored, and then Filip Hronek tied it.
After a Jake DeBrusk shootout winner and a perfect skills competition performance from Nikita Tolopilo, the Canucks did something they haven’t done all year: erase a multi-goal deficit in the third period.
“When you go through a losing streak, it’s kind of hard mentally,” Rossi said following the win. “To win, I think it’s a big relief for all of us. Feels unbelievable.”
Rossi’s play has been ramping up for the Canucks of late, but tonight might have been a coming-out party of sorts.
His line with Liam Öhgren and Brock Boeser was clicking throughout the game. They created the first goal of the night, which was credited to Boeser. In the opening frame, they weren’t on the ice for a shot attempt against.
“It’s clicking, game by game,” Rossi said.
“It’s always getting better, the chemistry is coming,” he said. “Everyone is bringing something different to the line.”
Rossi was everywhere throughout. Not only did he finish with three points, but he showed flashes of what made him a top-10 pick back in 2020.
He had defensive zone breakups, including one in overtime. The 24-year-old also showed that he’s not one to get pushed around, as he took a double-minor for roughing after retaliating to a jab from Predators forward Tyson Jost.
The 5-foot-9 centre was also on the ice for the most joyous goal celebration from the Canucks this season.

When Hronek scored the game-tying marker, you could feel the emotion from Drew O’Connor and Zeev Buium, as they embraced the Canucks’ goal scorer.
“It felt like that was a pretty big celebration for this group,” Rossi said.
“It matters, right?” Hronek said when asked about the emotion in celebrating that goal.
“We have a lot of young guys, and it’s important for them to get the wins and get that feeling and know what we have to play like every game,” he said.
Even after DeBrusk’s shootout winner, you could see Zeev Buium and defenceman Elias Pettersson shaking each other in jubilation as they went to celebrate with Tolopilo.
“The fans, the way they supported us the whole game, you could feel the energy,” Foote said following the rare home-ice win.
“You could feel it. You could totally feel it on the bench,” he said. “I think the players felt it. It gave them a little bit of a push.”
In a season where Rogers Arena has been a House of Horrors for the Canucks, Thursday night may have felt strange.
But, for one night, the infectious feeling of winning infiltrated this young Canucks team.
