A desperately poor first-half showing contributed to Hull City being beaten 3-0 at relegation-threatened West Brom, who won for the first time since December 29.

City were horrific in the first period and were fortunate to be only a goal down at the break, after Josh Maja swept home midway through it.

Charlie Hughes was sent off after making a hash of controlling the ball, allowing Jed Wallace to go past him before pulling him back when through on goal. It looked soft, and City may well appeal, but on the day, it made an already tough task even more difficult.

That task was made impossible with just over 20 minutes left when Aune Heggebo tapped in to make it 2-0 and give the hosts some breathing space. Isaac Price scored in added time to give Albion the gloss their display deserved.

Here’s how Tigers reporter Barry Cooper rated the players in the Black Country on Saturday….

Ivor Pandur: Made a vital save inside five minutes at his near post. Poor kick out didn’t help the build-up to the opening goal. Could do little about the second nor the third. 5/10

Lewie Coyle: Won a challenge but came off worst and had to be replaced just before half-time with what looked like a nasty knock. Before that, probably needed to come onto the left to stop Jed Wallace. 5/10

Charlie Hughes: Made a couple of really vital interventions before getting caught with the ball under his feet, allowing Wallace to get in, and he did pull him back. Wallace made the most of it, and the defender was sent off. Looked harsh, but he got himself in a mess, and that was avoidable. 4/10

John Egan: A rough first half, being pulled all over the place as City just got torn to pieces. Stuck at it second half, but an afternoon to forget. 5/10

Semi Ajayi: Back in the side against the club he left to join City in the summer, and endured a really shaky start and set the tone for a torrid first half. 5/10

Regan Slater: Couldn’t get on the ball at all in the first half as City were swarmed all over, and finished it at right-back, which is where he stayed. Couldn’t do enough to stop Price in stoppage time. 6/10

Matt Crooks: A return after his two-game suspension, and he struggled to get into it, as City were overpowered in the middle. Booked in the second, which summed up his and City’s day. 5/10

Liam Millar: Endured a torrid first period before coming off after Hughes’ dismissal. Was targeted time and time again and had no answer. You couldn’t help but feel for him, in truth. 5/10

Joe Gelhardt: Fouled a couple of times around the edge of the box but could do little to get City going in the first half. Came off in the second half with the game gone. 5/10

Lewis Koumas: Not in the game, and made a couple of needless errors defensively before being taken off in the second period. 5/10

Oli McBurnie: Saw a shot deflect just wide inside 10 minutes after collecting a loose pass, probably felt he should have scored from distance, too. 5/10

Subs:

Cody Drameh (for Millar 39): Came off the bench for his 50th Tigers appearance and actually stuck to his task well. Has to start next weekend, surely? 6/10

Amir Hadziahmetovic (for Coyle 47 65): Was missed in the first half, but by the time he came on, City were well off it. 6/10

Mo Belloumi (for Gelhardt 74): Picked up a yellow card for something he said in the final stages. 5/10

Kyle Joseph (for Koumas 74): Ran around a lot, thought he might have come on a bit earlier in fairness. 5/10

John Lundstram (for Crooks 74): No time to make any real impact with the game gone. 5/10
