A mother has been charged with murdering an 18-day-old baby girl in central London.

The Metropolitan Police said officers were called to a residential property on Horseferry Road, Westminster, around 7.30am on Saturday after reports a baby had fallen from a height.

The baby was taken to hospital, where she sadly died.

The girl’s mother, Zahira Byjaouane, of Horseferry Road, Westminster, was charged with murder on Sunday.

The 43-year-old will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

On Sunday morning, flowers and a toy animal had been left near the Peabody Estate building where a police cordon had been lifted.

Two forensic officers could be seen working in a third-floor flat on Saturday evening.

Detectives are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
