Beating a full-back and getting a cross into the box is Chloe Kelly’s bread and butter, and that was exactly what led to Olivia Smith’s opening goal in Sunday’s 2-0 win away to London City Lionesses.

It came as no surprise to Kelly, who had been working on such a move with our Canadian forward during training. Reflecting on our Barclays Women’s Super League win, Kelly said: “It felt amazing to be out there with the girls.

“A 2-0 win in tough conditions, I think that just shows what this team is about, the nitty gritty stuff and getting the win and getting over the line.

“I love to do that. Me and Liv spoke about it in the week and we were working on that, so it was nice to see the training pitch work come in to play on the weekend. Michelle Agyemang asked us to do that celebration for her!”

We also asked Chloe for her assessment on Stina Blackstenius, who always seems to cause trouble among opposition defences when she comes on and makes an impact.

“Stina was unbelievable,” she agreed. “A great finish and a great assist from Less, but that just shows the impact we have with the whole squad, Stina coming off the bench and doing exactly what we needed in that moment and putting the game to bed.

“Unbelievable from her, she always comes up.”
