Enzo Fernández plunged his Chelsea future into doubt after the club suffered the joint-largest aggregate Champions League defeat in their history.

Chelsea were beaten 3-0 in the second leg of their last-16 tie against Paris St-Germain, which meant the French club won 8-2 on aggregate to progress to the quarter-finals.

Fernández captained the team in the absence of Reece James, who is injured, and responded to the defeat by failing to give any assurances over his Chelsea future.

Asked by ESPN Argentina whether he can guarantee he will stay at Chelsea, Fernández, whose contract runs until 2032, said: “I don’t know – there are eight games left and the FA Cup. There’s the World Cup and then we’ll see.”

Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior was unaware of Fernández’s comment after the PSG defeat, saying: “Firstly, I haven’t seen that and it’s hard for me to speak on speculation after a game. I need to focus right now on the most important thing, which is making sure we get a result against Everton on Saturday.”
