An Ottawa man is facing impaired driving charges after a fatal two-vehicle crash on Carling Avenue on Wednesday evening.

Ottawa police say a 52-year-old woman died in the collision between a passenger van and a sedan at 7:15 p.m. on Carling near Ullswater Drive, near Moodie Drive.

Paramedics said the woman was critically injured and died at the scene. The man suffered non life-threatening injuries, they said.

There were no passengers in either vehicle.

Ottawa police have charged the 31-year-old man with impaired driving causing death and dangerous driving causing death.

“This incident is a heartbreaking reminder that impaired driving can have devastating, irreversible consequences,” police wrote in a news release. “One decision can take a life and forever change the lives of families, friends, and entire communities.”

Police said the investigation is ongoing, and they’re looking to speak with anyone who witnessed the collision or who may have dashcam footage of the incident.

Carling was closed in the area until around 6 a.m. Thursday, police said.
