Three young men have died after a car crash in Halifax.

Police were called to Keighley Road, Illingworth, at 6.50pm on Wednesday after a collision between a Ford Fiesta, a BMW and a Renault Clio.

Two men aged 22 and a 21-year-old man, who were all in the Fiesta, died at the scene.

A 21-year-old man who was also in the car was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

A 37-year-old man and two women aged 18 and 32, all from Halifax, who were in the BMW, have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

The Clio was stationary and unoccupied at the time of the collision.

The road remained closed on Thursday while enquiries were carried out.

Det Sgt Paul Lightowler, of the West Yorkshire Police Major Collision Enquiry Team, appealed for witnesses to come forward.

He said: “Our thoughts go out to the family and friends of the people who died. Specially trained officers will be supporting the families involved.

“This is a tragic incident and extensive enquiries are ongoing at the scene this morning.”
