Gardaí are investigating the discovery of a man’s body in a Cork property.

The deceased, who is understood to be in his late 50s, was found in a house at Barrack View near Cathedral Walk in Cork city on Tuesday afternoon.

A person out walking spotted the man lying inside the window of the property shortly after 4pm.

Concerned for the man’s welfare, they raised the alarm and both gardaí and paramedics attended the scene.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was later transferred to Cork University Hospital (CUH) morgue.

The Office of the State Pathologist was notified and it is expected that a post-mortem examination will be conducted on Wednesday.

Gardaí preserved the scene for a full forensic examination.

However, it is understood there was no sign of forced entry to the property.

Furthermore, there was no sign of any disturbance inside the house.

Garda sources stressed that the nature of their investigation will be determined by the findings of the post mortem examination.

Officers are now trying to determine the last known movements of the deceased who lived at the terraced house for some time.

Early indications are that the man was not seen by his neighbours over the past few days.

Gardaí will liaise with the Cork coroner over the matter.
