Manchester United are preparing for an active end to the summer transfer window after taking their time throughout the market so far.
United have been busy throughout the window with three new faces through the door. Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo have added goals and quality to Ruben Amorim’s attack with Diego Leon providing depth to left wing-back.
Each deal has provided varied circumstances. Leon’s agreement to move to England from Paraguay was finalised in January and Cunha became signing number one of the summer quickly.
However, it took the club a month to go from registering official interest in Mbeumo to announcing him following weeks of negotiations with Brentford. Now, with the window now in its final week, United are turning the screw.
A striker is at the top of Amorim’s wishlist and after missing out on previous top targets, all signs are pointing to Benjamin Sesko coming through the door. The Manchester Evening News understands that United are confident that the striker prefers a move to Old Trafford over Newcastle, who have offered RB Leipzig a better financial package.
United have bid €75million (£65.3m) plus €10m (£8.7m) in add-ons, a deal which would see their spending surpass the £185m mark. It has widely been reported that a striker, midfielder and goalkeeper are all positions on the agenda this summer and it seems as though their next move is being explored.
David Ornstein of The Athletic has suggested that United have acted to better Amorim’s midfield by showing interest in Brighton & Hove Albion’s Carlos Baleba. It’s said that, via intermediaries, the Reds have made contact with the Seagulls to explore the conditions for a move.

Baleba, who has three years left on his contract, is one of the most highly-rated youngsters in his position and has replaced Moises Caicedo in Brighton’s midfield. It has been noted, however, that Brighton want to keep the Cameroon international for at least another year.
There has been some speculation coming out of Africa that Brighton have agreed to let Baleba depart if the price is substantial.
The Athletic also reports that ‘lucrative sales’ will be needed at United to cough-up a big-money move for Baleba. It’s believed that the club will know if the situation will develop or not in the coming days.
Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia are all available for an exit this summer, while the club would be open to other departures as well, with Rasmus Hojlund one name the club could allow to leave. Significant sales would drastically increase the budget for United to swoop in for Baleba.
