Here are the player ratings of Plymouth Live’s Argyle reporter Chris Errington from the Pilgrims’ 3-0 away League One win against Barnsley at Oakwell on Easter Monday. You can give your marks too using our special widget further down this story.

Conor Hazard 7 – Had one shot to save all game, so well protected was he by his team-mates. Argyle used their goalkeeper to break up play early in the second half when he went to the ground for ‘treatment’ at a time when Barnsley were having a good spell. The Pilgrims’ players got some instructions from the coaching staff and soon afterwards Lorent Tolaj put them 2-0 up and on the way to a 10th away league win of the campaign.

Joe Edwards 7 – The Argyle captain got an excellent ovation from the 1,200-strong travelling Green Army when he was replaced by Brendan Galloway in the 84th minute. His consistency over the past four months, when the 35-year-old has started every match, has been highly commendable.

Mathias Ross 7 – Put himself under some pressure when he was yellow-carded in only the 10th minute for body-checking Barnsley midfielder Vimal Yoganathan so had to be careful with his challenges after that to avoid being sent-off and he did that with a strong defensive display for the rest of the game.

Alex Mitchell 8 – Has produced many very good performances for Argyle this season but this was one of the best of them. Not only did he win virtually every header he went for in the penalty area when the Pilgrims were defending, he came up with a superb pass in the build-up to the opening goal, with Lorent Tolaj running onto the ball and then setting up Owen Oseni to score.

Wes Harding 7 – Brought into the team at left-back in preference to Jack MacKenzie and dealt very competently with the attacking threat of Barnsley’s Patrick Kelly. He had several long throw-ins into the Barnsley box which, while they did not lead to any scoring chances directly, allowed Argyle to keep the ball in opposition territory for extended periods and use up time on the clock.

Ronan Curtis 7 – The closest he came to yet another assist for Argyle was when his side were leading 2-0 in the second half and Wes Harding got in a header from one of his eight corners during the game, which was saved by Owen Goodman. Curtis had a first half shot well blocked by Jack Shepherd when the ball appeared to be flying towards the far corner of the net.

Malachi Boateng 8 – Still an Argyle ever present this season after starting all 41 of their League One games and this was another very effective performance from Boateng, who always seemed to be there when his team needed him to break up attacks with important tackles or interceptions. His athleticism and ability to cover the ground means his central midfield partner, whoever it is, can focus on using the ball well.

Jamie Paterson 7 – Still waiting for his first Argyle goal and he might have thought he was going to get it when he ran onto the ball after a Ronan Curtis corner was cleared outside the Barnsley penalty area and his 25-yard shot had plenty of power behind it but was deflected off Jonathan Bland and out of play.

Owen Dale 7 – Was busy and industrious all game playing on the left of midfield. His efforts deserved a goal and he had a couple of decent opportunities, the first just before half-time and the second when the Pilgrims were 3-0 up, but they were from tight angles and Barnsley goalkeeper Owen Goodman saved both of them. Dale and Curtis have given Argyle excellent balance to the team in the wide attacking positions over recent times.

Owen Oseni 9 STAR MAN – Two goals and an assist for Oseni, who while not attracting the same amount of attention as Bim Pepple has made good progress as the season has gone along and is looking a more than capable League One marksman, still at the age of only 22. His penalty for his second goal of the game and Argyle’s third was very nearly saved by Owen Goodman but the ball ended up in the net as he reached double figures for the campaign.

Lorent Tolaj 8 – In just his second game back after a lengthy injury lay-off, and his first start since February, this was a reminder – not that one was needed – of how good a finisher Tolaj is. As soon as he worked the ball onto his left foot in the Barnsley box in the 57th minute there was only going to be one outcome – his shot being perfectly placed out of the reach of Owen Goodman to put Argyle 2-0 up. His assist for Owen Oseni’s first goal, a clever flick over a defender, was very deft too.

SUBSTITUTES

Caleb Roberts 7 – It was good for the 20-year-old midfielder to get a decent amount of game time as a 64th minute substitute for Jamie Paterson and have the opportunity to show Tom Cleverley what he is capable of in a central midfield role, and he had some nice moments.

Caleb Watts 7 – Was sent on for Lorent Tolaj in the 64th minute and played on the left of the attacking trio behind Owen Oseni in Argyle’s revised 4-2-3-1 formation for the second half. That seemed to suit Watts, who found plenty of space to work in and created attacking opportunities for his team-mates. It was his incisive pass which Owen Oseni ran onto before being brought down by Jack Shepherd for a penalty.

Xavier Amaechi – No sooner had Owen Oseni finished celebrating his second goal of the game which put Argyle 3-0 ahead he headed for the away dug-out as he was replaced by Amaechi.

Brendan Galloway – Was an 84th minute substitute for Joe Edwards and took up the left-back role, with Wes Harding moving across to right-back.

Substitutes (not used): Luca Ashby-Hammond, Jack MacKenzie, Ayman Benarous
