The biggest question in the world today is what happens when we hit Donald Trump’s 8 p.m. ET deadline for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. The president has threatened to bomb Iran’s civilian infrastructure if there’s no deal by then. There’s been no sign of a breakthrough, but on the other hand, “TACO,” right? So let’s check his latest Truth Social post. Maybe he’s already taking it down a notch!
… Or he’s declaring, “A whole civilization will die tonight, never to be brought back again. I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will.”
After ten years of Trump’s antics, we’re all pretty desensitized. In just the last day, the president insisted, in front of the Easter Bunny, that the Iranian people love being bombed, then confirmed that he’s committed war crimes and might do it again. But this casual announcement that we’ll “probably” see “a whole civilization die tonight” has to be one of the most insane things he’s ever tweeted.
Though he did kick off this whole deadline thing with these posts on Easter Sunday:
So perhaps not! But it does feel surreal, in a deeply sickening sort of way, that this could indeed be “one of the most important moments in the long and complex history of the World,” and we’re watching it play out in unhinged threats the president throws up on Truth Social, along with cool videos of New York in the 1920s and advertisements for some Mar-a-Lago gala luncheon.
