A worker has died in an incident at a poultry facility in Nova Scotia’s Annapolis Valley.

The provincial Department of Labour said it received a report of an incident that occurred at the facility in Glenmont, N.S., overnight Wednesday into Thursday.

Eden Valley Poultry president and CEO Jeff Purcell said in a statement Thursday that “earlier this morning, a tragic incident occurred at a farm we work with, resulting in the loss of one of our employees.”

“We are deeply saddened by this loss, and our thoughts are with the employee’s family, friends and co-workers,” the statement said. “Our priority is supporting those affected and co-operating fully with authorities, who are conducting an investigation.”

Purcell said out of respect for the family, no further details would be shared.

The Labour Department is investigating and said no other details are available.

Kings District RCMP responded to the scene. An RCMP spokesperson said criminality is not believed to be factor.
