11/04/2026 – 12:03Iraq official says drone crashed near US diplomats at Baghdad airport
A senior Iraqi security official told AFP that a drone crashed near a group of US diplomats inside the grounds of Baghdad’s airport earlier this week as they were escorting an American journalist freed after a recent kidnapping.
The account shed light on a statement issued Thursday by the US State Department saying it had summoned Iraq’s ambassador to Washington to express “strong condemnation” of attacks by pro-Iran groups on US interests, “including the April 8 ambush of US diplomats in Baghdad”.
Since the war in the Middle East broke out on February 28, the US embassy in Baghdad and a logistical and diplomatic centre inside the city’s airport have been repeatedly targeted by rockets and drones, with most intercepted.
11/04/2026 – 11:36Iran, Lebanon bore brunt of missiles and drones launched during war
Some three-quarters of the airstrikes during the Middle East war targeted sites in Iran or Lebanon, according to an AFP analysis of data from ACLED, a non profit that tracks political violence worldwide.
At least 7,700 strikes or series of strikes by missiles, drones, rockets or bombs, were recorded by the US-based conflict research group between the start of the war on February 28 up to April 8, when a fragile ceasefire concluded between Tehran and Washington came into effect.
ACLED collected and vetted its data from sources that it considers reliable, such as news reports, social networks, institutions, and other NGOs.
This count, which includes attacks that were intercepted, cannot be considered an exhaustive list from the conflict.

The United States has not made any public comments on the issue of unfreezing assets.
The source, who declined to be named due to the sensitivity of the matter, told Reuters that unfreezing the assets was “directly linked to ensuring safe passage through Strait of Hormuz”, which is expected to be a key issue in the talks.

Hezbollah lawmaker Hassan Fadlallah reiterated his Iran-backed group’s rejection of direct negotiations between Lebanon and Israel, a day after Lebanon’s president said such talks would take place next week in Washington.
The move is “a blatant violation of the (national) pact, the constitution and Lebanese laws… and it exacerbates domestic divisions at a time when Lebanon most needs solidarity and internal unity to face Israel’s aggression”, Fadlallah said in a statement.
