ITV issued a condition update on two horses immediately after the Grand National 2026. The race at Aintree was won by I Am Maximus, who also won the race two years ago.

However, following the National, ITV said there was concern for two runners who fell during the race. Top Of The Bill is being assessed on course after falling, ITV said.

In a further update, ITV host Ed Chamberlain said Top Of The Bill was walking back to the stables. Further details have not been released. Quai De Bourbon, also a faller, has walked onto an ambulance for further assessment.

In a later update, Mr Chamberlain confirmed that a third horse, Mr Vango, was also being assessed in the stables by vets. The horse, which was being ridden by Jack Tudor, also fell during the race.

This year’s Grand National featured 34 horses who had to gallop a total of 4 miles and 2½ furlongs – jumping 30 fences as they do two laps of the track. See full results and places here.

The race again started at 4pm, after the earlier time was introduced in 2024 in a bid to reduce the number of falling horses and injuries.

Other changes included reducing the field from 40 to 34 horses. The first fence has also been moved 60 yards nearer to the start – with the aim that runners will approach it at a slower speed. The height of the 11th fence has also been reduced by two inches to 4ft 10ins.
