CP24’s Courtney Heels is on the scene of an incident at a home near Taunton Rd. and Westney Rd.
Durham police say one person is dead following a break-in at a home in Ajax overnight.
According to police, officers were called to Shorten Place, near Taunton and Westney roads, at around 12:40 a.m. for reports of a break-and-enter at a home.
Police said they arrived to find a male suffering from “traumatic injuries.” He was subsequently pronounced dead on scene.
Investigators said they believe the suspects fled the area on foot prior to the arrival of officers.
No suspect descriptions have been publicly released.
The incident is being investigated as a homicide, police confirmed.
“Officers with the Public Order Unit will be out canvassing the area. At this time, investigators believe this incident was targeted, and there are currently no concerns for public safety,” police said in an email to CP24.
Investigators are expected to provide an update on the incident at 10 a.m.
