Man walking on A1(M) hard shoulder killed in HGV crash at Darrington

A man who was walking on the A1(M) has been killed in a crash involving an HGV, police said.

Emergency services were called to the northbound carriageway of the motorway at Darrington just after 07:30 BST, to reports of a man walking along the hard shoulder.

West Yorkshire Police said the man had been involved in another crash at about 07:15 BST on Valley Road, which involved a white Renault Captur and a white Toyota Proace City van.

The van driver, who is understood to be a 60-year-old from Leeds, then left the scene on foot and was struck by the HGV just before the Ferrybridge junction of the A1(M).
