  • April 17, 2026

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Some school districts in eastern Iowa are choosing to dismiss school early on Friday due to forecasted weather.

KCRG-TV9 has been previewing storms for Friday this week. That includes strong storms that will move through this afternoon, with a time frame of 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. as the time to watch.

Districts including Decorah, East Buchanan, Edgewood-Colesburg, Howard-Winneshiek, South Winneshiek, Starmont, and West Delaware all posted to their social media pages the concern for severe weather as to why they were dismissing early.
