An arrest has been made in connection with a mass shooting in Shreveport that left eight children dead. According to the United States Justice Department, Charles Ford, 56, of Shreveport, has been arrested and accused of providing the gun used in the mass shooting to Shamar Elkins. Elkins, 31, used the gun to shoot and kill eight children, seven of those being his own kids, according to a news release issued by the Justice Department. Ford is facing charges of felon in possession of a firearm and making false statements to federal agents. Ford faces up to 15 years in federal prison for the felon-in-possession charge and up to five years in federal prison for the false statement charge.According to the Justice Department, the ATF and the Shreveport Police Department began investigating a firearms trace on the rifle used by Elkins.Ford was identified as the person who purchased the gun from the original owner. Ford, who is a convicted felon and not allowed to own guns, lied to ATF agents about having the gun, according to the Justice Department. The Justice Department said Ford later admitted to having the gun under his seat in his car, admitting that he believed Elkins took it.
