DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — The man accused of fatally shooting three people on April 13 has died in the DeKalb County Jail.

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office reported that Olaolukitan Adon Abel was found unresponsive in his cell at 6:48 p.m. on April 21.

Detention staff notified medical personnel, who tried to save his life.

“Despite those efforts, he was pronounced deceased at the jail at 7:17 p.m.,” the Sheriff’s Office reported.

An internal review is underway and an official cause of death will be determined by the DeKalb County Medical Examiner’s Office.

“At this time, there is no indication of criminal activity or foul play,” the Sheriff’s Office reported. “Additional details are currently not available.”

Abel, 26, was facing numerous charges in connection to the shootings in DeKalb County. According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), he was born in the United Kingdom and became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 2022.

Abel was accused of killing 31-year-old Prianna Weathers outside a Checkers and 40-year-old Lauren Bullis, a DHS employee who was stabbed and shot to death while walking her dog, according to DeKalb County police. A third victim, a homeless man named Tony Matthews, died on April 20.

This is the second reported inmate death at the DeKalb County Jail this year. Last year, the sheriff reported eight inmate deaths at the jail.

There were four deaths in 2024 and four in 2023, a decline from 2022 when nine inmates died, the most in a decade.
