An air ambulance was called to the scene of the horror collision

A major road near Manchester Airport was closed by police throughout Sunday afternoon (April 26) after a serious collision involving a motorbike.
Police and paramedics raced to the scene on the Manchester Airport Eastern Link Road (A555) following the crash and taped off the area. Woodford Road and cycle routes were also cordoned off amid the collision.
All traffic was temporarily held in a closure for a number of hours as police responded. The A555 was shut in both directions between the A5149 Chester Road and A523 Macclesfield Road.

An air ambulance was also scrambled to the scene, landing nearby, as traffic officers and paramedics descended on the incident. Further details have not been confirmed.
Greater Manchester Police urged motorists to avoid the area, as a force spokesperson said: “We are dealing with a serious incident on the A555 Manchester Airport Relief Road between Cheadle and Poynton with both sides of the carriageway currently closed. Motorists are advised to stay clear of the area.”

Pictures from the scene showed heavy traffic in the area throughout the afternoon before motorists stuck in congestion were slowly released and re-routed. The main route was closed throughout the afternoon following the crash at around 1pm.
It is understood a motorbike was involved. Police have not confirmed if any other vehicles were also involved or the nature of any injuries as a result of the crash.
