Victoria Harbour smashes 128-year-old daily high temperature record

A record-breaking sunny Sunday across B.C. includes a pair of daily temperature records in Greater Victoria.
While the Victoria International Airport area eked out a daily high May 3 – with a new record of 25.1 C, defeating the 25 C set in 1944 – Victoria Harbour defeated a record set in 1898.
The harbour, measured at Gonzales, hit 26.9 C above the old daily record of 25 C. Records in that area have been kept since 1874.
Environment Canada tracks daily records derived from historical stations and documented several heat records broken on Vancouver Island on May 3.
Nanaimo set a new record of 28.1 C above the 1946 record of 25.6; Qualicum airport area set a new record of 26.5 over the 21.4 set in 1962; Comox hit 27.1 over the 25 set in 1946; Campbell River hit 28.9, trouncing the old record of 22.8 C set in 2013; Port Alberni hit 29.8 ahead of the 1907 record of 26.7; Tofino hit 25.7 ahead of the 1944 record of 21.1 C and Estevan Point reached 18.6 slightly warmer than the old daily record of 17.8 C set in 1944.
The weather in Victoria is expected to stay sunny and warm through the week, with some cloud rolling in on Friday. The expectation is for a high of 24 C Monday (May 4), with temperatures slowly dropping through the week.
The normals for this time of year in the region are a high of 16 C and a low of 7, according to Environment Canada.
