Resident of Portland, Maine, group home charged with murder

Police have arrested a man and charged him with murder in the killing of a woman at a group home in Portland on Monday.Portland Police announced Tuesday morning they had arrested Armando Javier Negrete, 40, who lived at Shalom House, located at 503 Woodford St., which is on the corner of Woodford Street and Rosemont Avenue.Police also identified the victim as Marlene McNeill, 40, of Gorham.Police said Negrete stabbed McNeill. She was taken to MaineHealth Maine Medical Center where she died.Police told Maine’s Total Coverage’s Jim Keithley on Monday that the crime scene was in a back hallway at Shalom House.Police said the attack happened just before 10 a.m. on Monday. Several residents of Shalom House were evacuated from the building by ladder using a fire department ladder truck.Negrete was taken to the Cumberland County Jail. Shalom House is an organization with the mission to support adults with mental illness.
