It’s not even the end of August yet, and Celtic are already four points clear of Rangers.
Whoever is in the Ibrox dugout, they always seem to provide entertainment for their rivals, and now Russell Martin is doing that following the opening two matches of the 2025/26 Premiership season.
On Saturday evening, Rangers drew 1-1 with Dundee and needed a questionable stoppage-time James Tavernier penalty to earn a draw, but points were dropped, just like against Motherwell on the opening weekend.
That opened the door for Brendan Rodgers’ side, who beat St Mirren on Flag Day, to further capitalise, and they did just that when Celtic beat Aberdeen 2-0 at Pittodrie on Sunday afternoon.
This has been the story of Glasgow for over two decades now, and even Rangers’ new boss knows it.

Celtic won the title by 17 points last season, and it could even be argued that the team went to sleep for the second half of the season.
After Rangers’ latest poor showing, Martin was pretty forthright and honest by telling BBC Radio Scotland (09/08/25) about the Gers’ lack of trophy success.
The former centre-back explained how his team have gone into Rangers ‘after a long time of a lack of trophies’ for the club.
“I think we have to earn it (patience),” said Martin about his Rangers side.
“I understand, the fans have lacked the success they want for quite some time, so I understand the frustration.
“We have come in after a long time of a lack of trophies, really, at this club. So, we are trying to bring an identity in which they really feel connected with.”
Celtic and Rangers trophies since 2000
Celtic have been eating up the trophies for years and years now, no matter who is in the Celtic Park dugout, and who is on the other side.
From Trebles under Ange Postecoglou to Trebles under Martin O’Neill, it has been a joy to watch, including winning 13 out of the last 14 titles.
Celtic have picked up more Trebles in the last decade than Rangers have titles; that’s how dominant it has been.
