A police officer has been critically injured after a Mercedes crashed into a parked police vehicle in Northumberland. The incident took place on the A189 near East Hartford after the emergency services had previously been called to a road traffic collision in the area.
Two people, including the officer who has critical injuries, were taken to hospital for further care. The emergency services had first been called at around 11.10pm on Monday evening after reports of a crash.
This had seen two vehicles – a Land Rover Freelander and a Ford Explorer – collide on the soutbound carriageway near to the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Hospital. The emergency services arrived on scene, the police said, to find the occupants of the Land Rover had fled on foot.
