Israeli authorities and security forces have enabled attacks by Israeli settlers on Palestinians in the West Bank with financial and military support, a U.N. inquiry has found. The Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory also reported that the Palestinian militant group Hamas had committed war crimes against Israelis and Palestinians. Commission members include an Indian jurist, a Zambian judge and an Australian human rights lawyer.
The report found that attacks on Palestinians by Israeli settlers in the West Bank have increased by 130 percent since 2023, and that Israeli forces routinely accompany settlers when they attack and shield them from retaliation by Palestinians. The Israeli mission in Geneva rejected the findings, saying they were based on unsubstantiated allegations, and the Israeli army said it condemns “any form of violence that undermines security.”
