Iran has agreed to dilute its stockpile of highly enriched uranium under a draft peace deal with the US.
Tehran will weaken the near weapons-grade reserve and a mechanism for doing so will be arranged within 60 days, an Iranian official has told Reuters.
The Islamic Republic has been pushing to handle the diluting of its uranium inside its borders.
Under the draft memorandum of understanding, Iran would not acquire or produce a nuclear weapon. Tehran would also immediately reopen the Strait of Hormuz, while America would end its blockade of Iranian ports, the official added.
Donald Trump announced late on Saturday that a deal to end the war in Iran would be signed today, although Iranian officials insisted that no final agreement had yet been approved.
Washington has also reportedly agreed to release €25bn in frozen Iranian assets in a move that would provide significant relief to the country’s struggling economy.
The US has yet to comment on the apparent terms of the deal.
