Here we go again! A sunny day and a stormy night. While many areas reached 90℉ yesterday, expect more 90s today to fuel the strength of storms arriving late.
I am watching two things today: First, the timing of the cold front, which looks to be late, so most of the day will be dry. While computer model guidance is focusing on AFTER 8 PM for storms to pass through Central Maryland, I do not have high confidence in short-range guidance. I will show it below with the caveat that we add an extra two hours as a buffer for when this may arrive.
The other thing I am watching will be the wind direction around the Chesapeake Bay. A kink FROM the Southeast is often a signal to enhance storms between the mountains and metro areas. These storms may contain any and all of the following: Downpours with local street flooding, dangerous cloud-to-ground lightning, wind gusts 60 to 80 mph, hail over 1″ in diameter, and tornadoes. The breakdown of each is on each map.
If conditions ripen, A Watch May Be issued. If conditions are present, then Warnings will be issued to track short-term paths.

High Wind Risk
Gusts 60 to 80 mph in 30% of the storms in metro areas between Washington, Baltimore, New York, and to the coast.
Large Hail Risk
Chance for hail OVER 1 inch in diameter in 5% of the storms that turn severe.
Tornado Risk
Only 2% risk for severe storms to produce a tornado. Meaning there is a 98% chance you will not see it happen in the shaded area.
WORK WEEK WEATHER
Cooler and less humid air will arrive Monday and last for a few days. The next potential storm threat will arrive Wednesday and Thursday!

RESTATING MY MESSAGE ABOUT DYSLEXIA
I am aware there are some spelling and grammar typos and occasional other glitches. I take responsibility for my mistakes and even the computer glitches I may miss. I have made a few public statements over the years, but if you are new here, you may have missed it: I have dyslexia and found out during my second year at Cornell University. It didn’t stop me from getting my meteorology degree and being the first to get the AMS CBM in the Baltimore/Washington region. One of my professors told me that I had made it that far without knowing and to not let it be a crutch going forward. That was Mark Wysocki, and he was absolutely correct! I do miss my mistakes in my own proofreading. The autocorrect spell check on my computer sometimes does an injustice to make it worse. I can also make mistakes in forecasting. No one is perfect at predicting the future. All of the maps and information are accurate. The ‘wordy’ stuff can get sticky. There has been no editor who can check my work while writing and to have it ready to send out in a newsworthy timeline. Barbara Werner is a member of the web team that helps me maintain this site. She has taken it upon herself to edit typos when she is available. That could be AFTER you read this. I accept this and perhaps proves what you read is really from me… It’s part of my charm. #FITF
