The Royal Canadian Mounted Police says it has arrested one of its own for threatening comments he allegedly made about U.S. President Donald Trump while protecting a summit attended by the American leader.
The RCMP says Evenson Dumerlus, 34, of St-Jean-sur-Richelieu has been charged with uttering threats.
The federal police force says Dumerlus allegedly posted threatening comments about the U.S. president on Snapchat in June 2025.
At the time, Dumerlus was deployed on G7 security operations, the RCMP said.
Trump was one of the leaders who attended the June 2025 G7 summit in Kananaskis, Alta.
The RCMP says the alleged comments were reported by a fellow officer and that its Special Investigations Unit, which investigates criminal allegations against RCMP employees in Quebec, quickly opened an investigation.
It says Dumerlus was removed from his duties the same day he allegedly posted the threats.
Dumerlus is scheduled to appear in court in St-Jean-sur-Richelieu on July 30.
