Councils across Wales have issued information and guidance on school closures which will be in effect on Thursday, June 25.
WalesOnline contacted each of the local authorities regarding the expected disruption to primary and secondary schools across the country amidst the red and amber weather warnings which are in force.
Here is the latest information which has been provided. The article will be updated with information on Newport and Rhondda as it comes in. Stay in the know by making sure you’re receiving our daily newsletter.
The local authorities have advised the public to keep an eye on the relevant council websites to where they live for any last minute changes.
Anglesey
A spokesman for Anglesey County Council told WalesOnline: “The safety and wellbeing of pupils and staff remains our priority during the forecast period of exceptionally hot weather.
“The council’s learning service has shared Welsh Government guidance with all schools and asked them to monitor conditions closely and take appropriate steps to keep children and staff safe.
“There are currently no county-wide plans to close schools. Decisions regarding the operation of individual schools rest with headteachers and governing bodies, who are best placed to assess local conditions and will communicate any changes directly to parents and carers.
“Schools have been encouraged to take practical measures such as promoting hydration, making use of shaded and well-ventilated areas, reducing strenuous outdoor activity and, where appropriate, adopting a flexible approach to uniform requirements.
“We will continue to monitor the situation and follow advice from the Met Office, Welsh Government and Public Health Wales.”
A spokeswoman for Blaenau Gwent Council said: “All schools in Blaenau Gwent are closed today and tomorrow (Thursday, June 25).”
A spokesman for Bridgend County Borough Council said the following primary schools will be closed on Thursday.

The spokeswoman for the council said: “In each case, decisions have been informed by risk assessments undertaken by schools. These assessments consider local conditions, building temperatures and the ability to safely continue operations during the extreme weather period.
“The situation continues to evolve as schools regularly review their circumstances. Arrangements will be communicated to parents directly.”
A spokeswoman for Carmarthenshire Council said all secondary schools in Carmarthenshire have taken the decision to close on Thursday, with primary schools making the decision on an individual basis.
She added that school closures are listed on the council’s website, but are updated by each school each morning. Visit the council’s website to keep up to date with the latest on the situation at your child’s primary.

A spokeswoman for Conwy County Borough Council told WalesOnline that Ysgol Babanod T Gwynn Jones in Old Colwyn will be closed from midday tomorrow.
Denbighshire County Council says Ysgol y Parc will be closed at 12.30pm (after lunch) on Thursday due to the extreme heat warning. It asks parents and guardians to arrange to collect their child from the school at 12.30pm.

A Denbighshire County Council spokesman said: “Following the current amber weather warning, there are no widespread school closures planned across the local authority area at this time. Schools remain open and are continuing to operate as normal, while taking appropriate steps to ensure the wellbeing of pupils and staff.
“The council has shared up-to-date national guidance with all schools in the county, including advice from Public Health Wales, Welsh Government, and education unions, on managing hot weather safely. Schools are implementing these recommendations, which include measures such as adjusting activities, encouraging hydration, and ensuring access to cooler spaces wherever possible.
“Each school is also carrying out its own risk assessment and planning based on its specific environment and community needs. As a result, any localised decisions will be made by individual schools if necessary. We would like to reassure parents and carers that the safety and wellbeing of children and staff remains the priority, and schools are taking sensible, proportionate steps to respond to the current conditions without disruption to learning wherever possible.”
A spokeswoman for Flintshire County Council said that no schools are currently confirmed to be closed.
Chief officer for education and youth, Claire Homard, said: “We have shared the latest Welsh Government and Health and Safety Executive guidance on managing education settings during extreme weather with all schools in Flintshire.
“Decisions on how best to implement this guidance are made by individual headteachers and governing bodies, who are responsible for managing their own settings and ensuring appropriate measures are in place during the hot weather.
“We will continue to carefully monitor the situation during the week, and the safety and wellbeing of our pupils and staff remains our highest priority.”
A spokeswoman for Gwynedd Council told WalesOnline: “Any decision to close a specific school in Gwynedd would be made by the headteacher and governing body.
“At present, there are no recorded school closures related to the weather warning. Any updates will be available on our website.”
Merthyr Tydfil

Neath Port Talbot Council has confirmed the following school closures on its website.
A Neath Port Talbot Council spokesman said: “Decisions on whether to remain open during periods of hot weather are made by each school.
“Schools are expected to undertake appropriate risk assessments and make decisions in line with national guidance from Welsh Government, taking any necessary steps to ensure pupils and staff are safe and comfortable while in school.
“This may include measures such as relaxing school uniform requirements, adapting activities, and ensuring children are kept well hydrated and protected from the heat.
“Parents and carers are encouraged to check the latest updates on school closures via our website.”

A spokesman for Pembrokeshire County Council told WalesOnline there is no plan to close schools at this time.
He added schools will make individual decisions if the situation changes, and to visit its school closure page for the latest updates by clicking here.
The spokesman added: “Each school in Pembrokeshire will make the arrangements it feels necessary to support pupils during extreme weather, including heatwaves.
“Examples include adjustments to the uniform required for this heatwave period and parents and pupils being reminded about the need for refillable water bottles and the wearing of suncream.”

A spokeswoman for Wrexham Council told WalesOnline that decisions on school closures are made on an individual basis by the headteachers for each school.
Wrexham Council lead member for education, councillor Phil Wynn, said: “During this period of extreme warm weather, schools will operate using the Welsh Government guidelines and decisions are made on an individual basis by headteachers for each school.
“Schools may relax uniform requirements and assess the suitability of certain accommodation on a regular basis.”
