Nick Jonas Revealed How He Really Felt About Performing With Demi Lovato as Fans Resurface Their Alleged Feud: ‘Honestly… ‘

This is real. They’re exactly where they’re supposed to be. In case you missed it, every early 2000s Disney Channel kids’ dream came true in New Jersey on a warm August night. The Jonas Brothers reunited with Demi Lovato during the kickoff show of their Jonas20: Greetings from Your Hometown Tour.

For some fans, that reunion was deeper than most people realize. If you want a refresher on mid-2010s drama, Nick and Demi used to be best friends, even though she dated his brother Joe Jonas. In a Carpool Karaoke video, the two gushed about their longtime friendship and told James Corden that everything was strictly platonic. “I don’t know if you’ve noticed, but I kinda go for older guys, no offense,” Demi said.

Demi Lovato and Nick Jonas embarked on their 2015 co-headlining tour Future Now tour. “Demi and I, we’re business partners [and] obviously have a long history of being friends, but the key for us was about living in this moment” Nick said during their joint Good Morning America appearance announcing the tour. “Taking a step out individually over the last year and a half, two years, growing with our fans, and saying if there’s ever a time to do it, it’s now, to come together and do this tour.”

2017: Demi & Nick Jonas collaborate on “Ruin the Friendship”

Demi and Nick teamed up on the track “Ruin the Friendship” on her album Tell Me You Love Me. The lyrics are pretty flirtatious. If you want to read the first verse, here it is:

“Put down your cigar and pick me up (pick me up)
Play me your guitar, that song I love (song I love)
Thirsty for your love, fill up my cup (up my cup)
I got only good intentions, so give me your attention”

2017: Demi dances around the question of whether “Ruin the Friendship” is about Nick Jonas

On an appearance on The Ellen Show, the host inquired about the song’s subject. “There’s supposedly a song about Nick Jonas,” Ellen stated to Demi, to which the singer said, “Ya know, something that I will always keep to myself is who I write my songs about.”

The “Cool for the Summer” singer finally talked to Noisey about the subject of the song. “I was frustrated with a certain situation,” Lovato told Noisey. “And I was like, ‘You know what, I’m just going to write about it.’ And so I did, and sent [the songs] to that person, and that was…interesting. Any time you send a song about the person, to the person—it’s ballsy. It’s like, ‘Hey! Here’s my feelings for you!’…They knew [about my feelings], but neither of us had acknowledged [them] before. And then it turned out that person had written a song about me, and we exchanged songs.” While she didn’t name Nick, it can be widely assumed that it was about him.

August 2025: The Jonas Brothers & Demi Lovato reunite in a Camp Rock reunion

On the opening night of their Greetings From Your Hometown Tour, the Jonas Brothers brought out Demi Lovato to perform “This Is Me” and “Wouldn’t Change a Thing” from Camp Rock.

A lot of fans were shocked about the move, with one viral post on X read, “this is so cute but i’m shocked demi agreed to be in the same vicinity as nick.” Feud rumors swirled even more when Demi didn’t tag Nick on her post of the performance. “nick posting a picture hugging her but demi not even tagging him in the group photo is kind of hilarious actually,” one fan posted.

However, things seem to be fine between them since Demi started following Nick the day before the performance, and Nick went out to reach for a hug after she performed the duet with Joe. The youngest JoBro even posted a photo of them hugging, and she eventually went back and tagged him on the post.

August 2025: Demi Lovato said the reunion was ‘healing’

In an appearance on the “Chicks in the Office” podcast, Demi revealed how her ex-husband Joe Jonas reached out to her for the performance. [He] was like, ‘Hey, what are you doing next weekend on the 10th? We would love to have you come and perform “This Is Me” and “Wouldn’t Change a Thing.” You’ve been a huge part of our journey and vice versa … This show is really important to us and we would love to have you there,’” Demi recalled. “It was so nice, and like I said, it was so healing for me too. We’ve been through so much together all of us, the Jonas Brothers and I, and it was really, really great to spend time with them.”

The brothers went to her dressing room backstage and “spent time getting to know my husband” — musician Jordan Lutes, whom she married in May — “which was really meaningful to me.”

“They just thanked me profusely for flying across the country to perform with them and it was just so thoughtful,” she continued. “I felt so appreciated and it was really healing for us. I loved it, every second of it was so great.”

When asked if she hesitated before saying yes, she said, “It was an instant like, ‘Let’s do this. Because in this new era of mine too, I’m throwing it back to the memes and some of the things I’ve been posting have been really nostalgic. So this just fit in with everything that I’ve been doing. And on top of that, it’s such a meaningful song to me — ‘This Is Me’ is my first big song that I’ve ever had. So getting to perform that with them for the first time in God knows how many years was just so full circle and so special and it was great to see them.

August 2025: Nick Jonas responds to Demi’s performance on their tour

Speaking with PopSugar, Nick Jonas talked about his emotions when his band reunited with his longtime friend. “You look up and there’s a person there that we’ve shared some real life with and gone through some pretty incredible experiences with…. And so to be back on that stage, to have that experience in our hometown with her was really significant for us. I’m really grateful that we had that chance to do that and to sort of cap off the night of that 20-year journey with a person who means a lot to all of us outside of her immense talent. Just her willingness to come and perform with us after so long was really profound. Honestly it felt a bit like a dream.”
