Father of 7-month-old killed charged with 2nd degree murder

  • June 29, 2026

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) -The father of 7-month-old Kiyomi Parker, who was shot and killed Friday afternoon, has been charged with second-degree murder.

Court documents state Ca’Marion Pawnell, 19, is being charged with one count of second-degree, felony murder, one count of endangering the welfare of a child resulting in death and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child creating substantial risk.

SLMPD said the shooting happened just after 4 p.m. in the 8400 block of North Broadway, near Halls Ferry Road in the Baden neighborhood.

Police say responding officers did a “scoop and go” on the baby, grabbing her from the shooting scene and placing her in the back seat of a police car to rush her to an area hospital. An officer in the backseat with the child continued life-saving measures while other officers blocked traffic in an attempt to get her to the hospital faster.

Police say the baby girl was pronounced dead at an area hospital.

According to documents, witnesses at the scene said a 10-year-old picked up a gun and shot Parker. Police also learned that Pawnell was Parker’s father.

A 7-year-old child was also present inside the home at the time of the shooting.

As officers spoke more with witnesses, including the 10-year-old boy, they learned that Pawnell stored a gun underneath a mattress in a bedroom in the house.

The 10-year-old boy said he knew where the gun was and that it was accessible to him for an extended period of time, according to court documents. He also said he had taken the gun out and touched it before.

Court documents state that when police spoke with Pawnell, he said the gun was his, and he had placed it underneath the mattress as the 10-year-old boy had described.

Pawnell is being held with no bond.

The 10-year-old who is being accused of pulling the trigger is being charged with first-degree murder in juvenile courts.

Based on First Alert 4’s research, he appears to be the youngest person in Missouri history to be charged with murder.
