Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the Israeli military killed “hundreds of terrorists” in Lebanon during the past several weeks in a visit to the IDF-occupied buffer zone in southern Lebanon.
IDF soldiers “have eliminated 9,000 terrorists, hundreds of terrorists in recent weeks,” Netanyahu said, touring the area with Defense Minister Israel Katz and IDF Deputy Chief of Staff Tamir Yadai. In early June, Israel announced that it had renewed the cease-fire in Lebanon in a statement co-signed by the country.
“The main thing we have done – and this is what you are doing here – is to create buffer zones, security zones, not on our side of the border – on their side,” Netanyahu said, speaking to IDF soldiers during his Tuesday visit. IDF-held areas are “a change in concept,” he said.
“Everything above ground and below ground that served them as a means of attacking us – infiltration routes, terror tunnels, terrorist villages – it’s all going down. That’s the directive: Leave nothing behind.”
