A young man and woman sadly died in a collision which closed part of the A46 near Coventry.

Warwickshire Police have this morning (July 2) confirmed that a man and a woman died in the collision on A46 southbound between the A45 near Coventry and Stoneleigh Island yesterday (July 1).

Neither have been identified but the man was aged in his 30s and the woman in her 20s.

They were travelling in a red SEAT car which, the force said, for ‘unknown reasons’ left the road.

The southbound carriageway was closed for around eight hours following the serious collision.

Now a witness appeal has been launched as part of ongoing investigations.

Police statement

“At 6:31am on 1 July, we were called to a report of a road traffic collision on the A46 Southbound near Stoneleigh,” a Warwickshire Police statement reads.

“For unknown reasons, the driver of a red SEAT car left the road.

“A man in his 30s and a woman in her 20s sadly died at the scene.

“If anyone saw what took place or has CCTV or dashcam footage from around this time and place, please contact us on 101 or through our web reporting tool citing Incident 52 of 1 July.”

Information can also be passed on to the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
