WASHINGTON (TNND) — The military in Iran warned Thursday that there would be a “forceful response if the oil tankers didn’t go through the approved Strait of Hormuz routes.
“Any failure to comply, deviation from the designated route, or disregard for the navigation protocols of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the Strait of Hormuz will be met with an immediate and forceful response from the armed forces, endangering the security of the violating vessels,” the Khatam al-Anbiya military command said in a statement, according to The Hill newspaper.
The statement to Iranian media comes after U.S. Central Command said Wednesday that it met with military officials all over the Middle East.
According to Centcom, the military officials “underscored their shared commitment to the free flow of commerce through the Strait of Hormuz.”
Iran closed down the Strait of Hormuz earlier this year after the U.S. bombed the Middle Eastern country over concerns it had missiles.
After negotiations with the U.S., President Donald Trump said that the strait opened up again.
The Strait of Hormuz transports almost a fifth of the world’s water supply.
Trump said that oil prices have decreased since the strait was opened.
