New reporting raised questions about a U.S. military strike in Iran after several sources said the military should have known a school was at the site in February.
CNN reported military commanders relied on intelligence they knew was outdated because they needed to locate targets quickly. The report said the intended target was an Islamic Revolutionary Guard facility.
Iranian state media reported the airstrike killed 168 children and 14 teachers. The report also pointed to satellite imagery taken after the strike.
According to the reporting, the school had once been part of the same compound as the military target. Satellite images showed that by 2016, the school had its own separate entrance and a fence separated the buildings.
That detail added to questions about whether the site could have been identified before the strike.
