Iran struck US military bases in the Middle East on Thursday in retaliation for fresh American strikes against the country.
The IRGC said it had targeted “key infrastructure and facilities” at US bases in Bahrain and Kuwait. Blasts were heard in Manama, Bahrain’s capital, while Kuwait reported intercepting “hostile missile and drone attacks”.
The tit-for-tat strikes followed a new wave of US attacks on the orders of Donald Trump after Iran targeted three tankers in the Strait of Hormuz.
The president declared a US-Iran ceasefire as over during the Nato summit in Turkey, as he called the Tehran regime “scum” and “dishonourable”.
The US Central Command said its forces had struck approximately 90 military targets.
A railway bridge in Iran’s north-east was struck overnight, Iranian state media reported early on Thursday. A military base in coastal Bushehr, which hosts the nation’s only civilian nuclear power plant, was also hit, while three people were killed in the south of Iran.
Earlier, warplanes were heard over Iran’s Kish Island and explosions rocked the port cities of Bandar Abbas, Konarak and Chabahar.
“This is in retribution for yesterday’s bombing of ships by Iran,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social. “If it happens again, it will get much worse!”
Late on Wednesday while speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One as he flew back from the Nato summit, Trump said the Iranian side had “called a little while ago,” and that they wanted “to make a deal so badly” without providing further details.
