ITV Racing is back on Saturday with action from Newbury, Market Rasen and the Curragh, starting here with a Listed race over 1m2f. There’s rain around so watch the going reports. At the time of writing I’m expecting something on the fast side of good.

This is a decent race. The interesting one here for me is ANCIENT WISDOM, who has been gelded since running in the Coronation Cuyp at Epsom. He wasn’t sighted in that, but prior to the effort had tried to make all at Sandown, only to be picked up by Al Aasy. Almaqam was back in third that day and the form is solid.

Certain Lad could take him on for the lead, but the ground won’t be soft enough for that rival and Ancient Wisdom can sit second if need be in any case. Charlie Appleby trains and William Buick is on top. Rashabar is interesting up in trip.

Over jumps ITV go to Market Rasen of this handicap hurdle over an extended 2m4f. MOSTLY SUNNY is a strong stayer at this trip – unlike one or two rivals stepping up in distance – and should give us a run with Harry Atkins taking off 7lb. I like the fact he ran in a big field at Uttoxeter last time and put up a fair fourth off a mark of 119. He’s on the same mark here but with the rider claim is technically 7lb lower and has every chance.

Now a handicap over an extended 2m. KYLE OF LOCHALSH should go well here for David Porbert and Hughie Morrison. It’s the handicap mark of 96 that interests me on his second run of the season. My hope races off 97, and performed well last year off that rating when fourth at Goodwood in a staying race won by Master Milliner. He kept on well that day over 1m6f and is no issue. This four-time winner has a great chance to win a third race on turf.

14:40 Market Rasen – OSLO (each-way)

Another handicap over this time over an extended 2m. I’ll have a few quid each-way here on OSLO for Fergal O’Brien and Liam Harrison. It’s hard to make a recent form claim for my selection on the back of a distant sixth at Uttoxeter on seasonal debut at Uttoxeter.

Indeed, he has no chance with Tara Iti judged by that effort, however, he’s been dropped a chunk in 4lb and now has a tongue strap. If he couldn’t get his breath right he might just be better than we saw that day. This is a horse who has been placed at this trip off 120 in his time. The ability is there if he’s anywhere near right.

Up in class now for the Group 3 Hackwood Stakes over 6f. A race where some good things have got beat in the past. Regional has every chance but he doesn’t win very often. I’ll chance ELITE STATUS who remains held in high regard by Karl Burke. The trainer puts on cheekpieces for the first time on the back of a fair comeback at York and a no show at Ascot in the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes.

This time last year, of course, Elite Status took this prize from Lake Forest as the 5-2 favourite with Kind of Blue back in third and Regional fourth. He was rated 111 then is is down to 109 now which tells a story. But fingers crossed this is his moment. Clifford Lee is on top.

A handicap chase over an extended 2m5f. HORANTZAU D’AIRY is chucked in on some of his Irish form and was far from disgraced in two runs for Michael Keady when 13th in the Grand National off 147 and second at Uttoxeter off 142. This longer trip will suit him and he’s down to 141 now on first run for Sara Bradstock. Obviously it’s hard to be confident about any ex-Willie Mullins horse for another yard, but my selection jumps and stays well and is handicapped to perform. He’s also quite long odds. He’s an each-way chance if he takes to the track.

The Super Sprint for juveniles over 5f. Many hotpots have been turned over in this over the years, but I’m all over HAVANA HURRICANE for Eve Johnson Houghton and Charlie Bishop. The Windsor Castle hero has a fabulous racing weight and is well suited to a strong field and coming off a fast pace. The fact he went well over 6f at Epsom is also a bonus, as he clearly stays a bit further than 5f. He should take all the beating and come late and fast to victory.

The Group 1 Irish Oaks for fillies over 1m4f. This won’t take long. Oaks heroine MINNIE HAUK should be far too good for this field and score for Aidan O’Brien and Ryan Moore. She did well to beat Whirl at Epsom and that form has already been upheld. Wemightakedlongway was fourth at Epsom and will probably chase my selection home. It’s not rocket science this race.

So best of luck and pray for Yeeehaaas. You hear me Paddy?
