(Bloomberg) — Lettuce supplier Taylor Farms told US regulators the company is preparing to issue a recall of ingredients linked to a diarrhea-causing parasite outbreak that’s sickened thousands in Michigan and nearby states, according to a document viewed by Bloomberg News.

The scope of the recall is unclear. A representative for Taylor Farms, one of the country’s largest produce suppliers, didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment. A representative for the US Food and Drug Administration didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
The recall would be the clearest sign yet of the potential source of a widening outbreak of severe diarrhea that prompted Taco Bell to pull some lettuce from Midwest restaurants this week. US health authorities on Thursday tied the illnesses to shredded lettuce at the restaurants and pointed to a single supplier.
In 2024, Taylor Farms recalled some yellow onion batches produced in a Chicago facility in response to a deadly outbreak of E. coli linked to some McDonald’s Corp. burgers that sickened more than 100 people across 14 states. McDonald’s at the time said it stopped sourcing onions from the facility that processed them and the farm where they were grown. The fast-food chain temporarily stopped selling its Quarter Pounder burgers as well.
