A three-year-old boy died a day after he was found in a pond in his garden, an inquest heard. An inquest opened following the death of Reuben Reynolds last week.
The opening, held at Bootle Town Hall today, July 22, heard how three-year-old Reuben was found in a pond in the rear garden of his home on Brownmoor Lane in Crosby on Saturday, July 18.
Evidence, read to the court by coroner’s officer Laura Daniels, said: “On Saturday, July 18, Reuben was located in a pond in the rear garden of the property in Crosby.”
The child, who was born in Liverpool, was taken to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital by ambulance where he died that night.
The coroner initially stated the death occurred on Sunday night, with the ECHO since being told by Merseyside Police he died on Saturday.
A post-mortem is yet to be carried out but is expected to take place this week, senior coroner Anita Bhardwaj explained to the court. A full inquest has not yet been listed, with the listing dependent on the post mortem.
The ECHO previously reported both Merseyside Police and North West Ambulance Service attended the incident. The home is believed to be where he lived with his mum.
Officers are continuing to support the family and enquiries remain ongoing to establish the full circumstances of what happened.
A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: “We can confirm that emergency services were called to an address on Brownmoor Lane in Crosby on Saturday evening (July 18) following a report a three-year-old boy had fallen into a pond.
“The North West Ambulance Service and police attended and the child was taken by ambulance to hospital for treatment where he was sadly pronounced deceased.
“Our officers continue to support the family and enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of what happened.”
